Barrier-free

The ZBW aims to make its services accessible to as many persons as possible. Therefore we have designed our website as barrier-free and we will continue to make our offerings as accessible as possible.

The website of the ZBW conforms largely to the guidelines of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) . The Web Accessibility Guidelines drawn up by the World Wide Web Consortium were integrated into the German Act on Equal Opportunities for Disabled Persons in July 2002 as “Ordinance on Barrier-Free Information Technology (BITV)”. Since December 2002 a corresponding ordinance exists in Schleswig-Holstein as the “Act on Equal Opportunities for Disabled Persons in Schleswig-Holstein and on amendment of other legal provisions” (LBGG).

We would like to highlight the following features of our website:

  • Clear structuring of pages.
  • All images are explained by alternative texts.
  • Sufficiently strong colour contrasts.
  • Page navigation by keyboard is possible.
  • As an additional navigational help the navigation can be jumped by keyboard to access the page content directly.
  • As an alternative to browser settings, the font size can be changed with the buttons "A+", "A-" und "A".
  • Window size can be adjusted individually without contents overlapping.
  • The use of Cascading Stylesheets (CSS) for the entire layout allows the depiction of the contents even if the stylesheet is deactivated.
  • The print function of your browser gives you a print version of the page without distracting images of the navigation, headline etc.

The integration of catalogues, databases and interfaces to external providers present a problem. We aim to find acceptable solutions for this and to optimise our website continuously.
