ECONIS Select – Global Economy Prize 2011: Jean-Claude Trichet

The prize is meant to honor those who have proposed creative, pathbreaking initiatives to deal with globalization.

The 2011 Global Economy Prize is awarded to Jean-Claude Trichet in the category of Politics.

Jean-Claude Trichet, born on December 20, 1942 in Lyon (France), became Acting President of the European Central Bank in the year 2003. Before, he was appointed Governor of the Bank of France, Alternate Governor of the International Monetary Fund, Governor of the World Bank and Director of the French Treasury Department. Trichet has been decorated with the Grand Cross 1st class of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany and Commandeur de l'Ordre national de la Légion d'honneur. He has been awarded honorary doctorates by a number of universities and was honoured as "Person of the Year" (Financial Times – 2007) and "Central Banker of the Year" (The Banker - 2008).
