Ordering literature

If you want to order from our online catalogue ECONIS you need a ZBW user card. It will be issued to you, at no cost, by the team at the information desk who will also give you your user number and password.

Call up the title you wish to order in ECONIS. At the end of the title records for books and bound journals you will find a button “Request”.

Title records for articles in books or journals do not have a visible request button. When in the full view of the article’s title record, click into the line starting with “In..” and you will be linked to the journal, or to the book offering a request option.

TIP: remember in which year and which volume the article was published.

Journals do not have a visible request button. You must first tell the system which year and volume of the journal you want to borrow. For this, click on the link “volume list”.

After clicking the button „Request“ a page will open where you can choose whether you want to pick up the book or journal in Kiel or in Hamburg. Please take note of the corresponding times allotted for transport. Input your user number and password and send the form.

A publication cannot be ordered with the “Request“ button

In this case please click the link order form in the left grey frame of the ECONIS or make your request on one of the white order forms which you can find at the library’s user work stations.

Journals from the current year

Journals from the current year cannot be requested electronically. You will see the notice “Unbound/Please use the order form“. These journals are still in the closed stacks as separate issues. All issues of a year will only be bound together after the year has ended. To order these issues, please click the link order form in the left grey frame of the ECONIS or make your request on one of the white order forms which you can find at the library’s user work stations.

Older journal volumes

Older journal volumes do not always have their own database entry (title record). The relevant information whether a volume is available in the ZBW can be found in the category “Available” of the journal’s main description. If a volume is available in the ZBW but does not have its own title record, please click the link order form in the left grey frame of the ECONIS or make your request on one of the white order forms which you can find at the library’s user work stations.

will be at your disposal for reading and copying in the library during one week.

Renewal of loan period for books

You can renew the loan period for books yourself from your PC work station or in the library.

To do this, call up the online catalogue ECONIS on our homepage and click the button “Borrower information“ in the upper horizontal navigation bar. There you can find a list of the publications you borrowed. The list will show you which publications can be renewed, and you can then carry out the renewals.

Every renewal extends the loan period for three weeks starting on the day of the renewal. The loan period for books can be renewed up to four times if no one else has made a reservation for them.

Renewal of loan period for journal volumes

Journal volumes can be re-issued to you at the loan desk if you need them for longer than one week and nobody else has made a reservation for them.

Reservations

You can make reservations for literature in the online catalogue ECONIS from your PC work station or in the library. Titles that are currently on loan have a button “Reserve” at the end of the title record of the book or journal volume. Click this button “Reserve” and enter your user number and password. Then you can send the reservation.

We will notify you by mail when the requested title becomes available to you.
