Metadata management

The metadata management team is your contact for incoming and outgoing data deliveries from the ZBW. The ZBW offers metadata of its own holdings for re-use, receives data from negotiated licence packages and ensures that they are made available to consortium participants.

The metadata team's tasks include procuring, checking, converting and archiving the metadata and PDFs supplied by publishers and providers.

ZBW specialists for metadata standards and formats in the Metadata Management team work on the integration of heterogeneous metadata e.g. for the portal EconBiz or the e-book pool of the Common Library Network. They develop mappings for the integration of heterogeneous metadata, which serve as the basis for the transformation of metadata.

The metadata management team analyses metadata for statistical purposes and the data quality management.

The metadata team offers support in all questions regarding metadata standards for the development of the ZBW’s information systems, in cooperations and third-party-funded projects.

We offer our expertise in:

  • knowledge of metadata standards in libraries and special standards for various purposes and types of resources (e.g. research data, structural metadata for digitisation, reference management formats etc.)
  • knowledge of cataloguing codes, frameworks, authority files and vocabularies, persistent identifiers, markup languages and semantic markup.
  • Knowledge of library informatics, including programming scripts, working with Linux tools and handling databases.
