The ZBW engages for more Open Access in book publishing. It negotiates agreements for the Open Access Transformation of relevant monograph series.
In a pilot project of the ZBW, the academic publisher Duncker & Humblot and the German Economic Association (Verein für Socialpolitik) converted the series “Schriften des Vereins für Socialpolitik (SVS)” to a Diamond Open Access model. Thanks to the ZBW’s support there are no book processing charges for authors in this model.
From 2022, all titles in the series are immediately available digitally on publication. In addition, all available back issues, going back to 1873, have been converted to Open Access in 2022. In total, 700 works have been made freely accessible and reusable.
The ZBW finances the costs of production and Open Access availability of the series and makes them accessible through the disciplinary repository EconStor.
Other model projects are currently being negotiated.
