Heute vor 80 Jahren, am 29.10.1929, leitete ein verheerender Börsensturz an der Wall Street die große Weltwirtschaftskrise ein. Begonnen hatten die Kursstürze schon einige Tage zuvor: Seit dem 24. Oktober verzeichnete die New Yorker Börse Kurseinbrüche von bisher nie dagewesenem Ausmaß. Die Aktien fielen um bis zu 50 Dollar, als Folge davon kletterte der Gesamtumsatz auf fast 13 Millionen Aktien bzw. Anteile, die höchste Ziffer in der Geschichte der Börse. Diese Zahl wurde in den nächsten Tagen noch übertroffen, bis sie am 29.10. ihren Höhepunkt erreichte. Die Gesamtverluste dieser "sechs schwarzen Tage von Wall Street" wurden auf 50 Milliarden Dollar beziffert.
