ECONIS Select – Der Ökologische Fußabdruck

Wie viele Ressourcen (ver)braucht ein Mensch? Dieser Frage widmeten sich Mathis Wackernagel und William E. Rees und entwickelten den Ökologischen Fußabdruck.

Dieses Modell bestimmt im ersten Schritt die Ressourcen, die ein Mensch verbraucht, um sie im zweiten Schritt in die Landfläche umzurechnen, die für eine Bereitstellung dieser Ressourcen erforderlich ist. Der Ökologische Fußabdruck gilt als Messgröße für den Ressourcenverbrauch und als Indikator für Nachhaltigkeit.

Nachdem zuerst einzelne Menschen und Nationen als Referenzobjekte herangezogen wurden, werden zunehmend auch Unternehmen und ganze Branchen an den Ergebnissen ihrer Umweltschutzmaßnahmen gemessen.
