Laut einer aktuellen Studie der Grazer Universitätsklinik für Psychiatrie weisen etwa 54 Prozent der österreichischen Ärzte Anzeichen des Burnout-Syndroms auf. Auch Millionen Deutsche sind von der Volkskrankheit der totalen Erschöpfung betroffen.

Vor allem engagierte Menschen, die nach Perfektion streben, andauernder Arbeitsbelastung ausgesetzt sind und kaum Anerkennung für ihre Leistung bekommen, gehören zu den Risikogruppen. Der Begriff "Burnout-Syndrom" entstand Mitte der 70er Jahre und ist in unserer Turbo-Leistungsgesellschaft aktueller denn je.
