Erstmals seit 1980 hat Japan für das Jahr 2011 ein Handelsbilanzdefizit ausweisen müssen. Die vorläufigen Schätzungen für die Höhe des Defizits belaufen sich auf 32 Mrd. US-$, etwa 0,5% des Bruttoinlandsprodukts (BIP).
