The ZBW library reopens for book loans and for a limited use of the reading room.

You can pick up and borrow the books you have ordered on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 10a.m. and 2p.m.

Starting on 10 August 2020, the ZBW widens opening hours for picking up ordered books and for a limited use of the reading room:

  • Monday/Thursday 10a.m. – 4p.m.
  • Tuesday/Wednesday/Friday 10a.m. – 2p.m.

Working spaces in the reading room are limited. Access is allowed after successful registration at the service desk. A ZBW user card is required for using the reading room. PC work stations and group study areas/rooms remain closed. Scanning/copying/printing is allowed again and can be paid for at the pay machine.

Please observe the generally known hygiene rules during your stay:

  • Wear a face mask
  • Disinfect your hands
  • Have your user card ready

Please use the return boxes at our branches for returning books.

Books can be returned as follows:

  • In Hamburg: Mo-Fr 6:30-19:30h, using the return boxes in the entrance hall
  • In Kiel: rund the clock, using the book hatch at the left-hand side of the main entrance

Prolonged stays in the rooms of the ZBW are not yet possible. Reading rooms and group study rooms will remained closed.

You can still have books from the pick-up shelf sent to you for a fee:
Email us at info@remove-this.zbw.eu. We will send the books to your home address. The fee for the first book is 9 €, for every other additional book 2 €.
