Library of Rights (LORI) is open-source software developed by the ZBW for managing usage and access rights for digital objects in libraries and infrastructure organisations.
Whilst licences for electronic resources are often managed at a package level, LORI takes into account the rights of individual digital objects. This allows even complex legal scenarios, such as open access licences, Moving Walls or transformation agreements, to be mapped.
The software documents rights relating to the storage, provision and use of digital content in a transparent manner, thereby supporting the management of access to this content.
A web-based front end enables the simple maintenance and management of rights information.
LORI is in productive use at the ZBW for rights management within the Digital Archive. However, the software can be used independently of any specific system and is available for reuse by libraries and other institutions that manage digital collections.
