ZBW Safe

ZBW Safe is designed for the secure storage and long-term preservation of digital publications in the field of economics. It ensures that the archived documents remain available and usable in the future. Through ZBW Safe, the ZBW is an official archiving partner of the international ISSN Keepers Register.

What is archived?

ZBW Safe comprises digital publications from the ZBW’s collection. Scholarly monographs, journals and articles are archived.

A key focus is on licensed publisher publications, which are archived as backup copies. In addition, freely available documents such as working papers, annual reports, statistics and government publications are stored.

Content licensed and made available via the ZBW’s consortia is stored in full in ZBW Safe; this relieves the burden on institutions participating in the consortia.

Cataloguing and discoverability

All archived documents are catalogued with quality-checked metadata and indexed via the subject portal EconBiz. Each document is assigned a persistent identifier (handle) that permanently refers to the object and enables reliable citation.

Long-term archiving

The contents of ZBW Safe are transferred to digital long-term archiving, thereby ensuring the long-term preservation and usability of the digital objects.
