Klaus Tochtermann elected to the Board of Directors of the European Open Science Cloud
Kiel/Hamburg, 17 December 2020: On 17 December 2020, the director of the ZBW – Leibniz Information Centre for Economics, Professor Klaus Tochtermann, has been elected as one of eight members of the Board of Directors of the European Open Science Cloud Association. The German science community now has a long-time representative of the Open Science movement at the top of European science policy.
On 17 December 2020, around 140 European research institutions entitled to vote met to elect the eight members of the Board of Directors of the European Open Science Cloud Association. The EOSC Board implements resolutions of the General Assembly and is thus the most important body of the European Open Science Cloud Association.
ZBW director Professor Klaus Tochtermann has been elected for a term of three years as one of eight honorary board members.
Klaus Tochtermann is a nationally and internationally active shaper of the Open Science movement and focuses on research data management. He has been a member of the German Council for Scientific Information Infrastructures RfII) for six years. The Council initiated the National Research Data Infrastructure (NFDI) in Germany, in which the ZBW participates as an active member of NFDI consortia. Klaus Tochtermann has also been a member of the High Level Expert Group of the EOSC from 2015 til 2018, and for the past two years he has been a member of the EOSC working group Sustainability which addresses the issue of how to structure the EOSC and ensure its sustainability in the coming years.
Beyond the EOSC, Klaus Tochtermann is a member of the German delegation of the G7 Advisory Group on Open Science and of the DataTogether Group which reunites representatives from leading organisations in the field of research data management. Among these are the Committee on Data (CODATA), the Research Data Alliance (RDA), World Data Systems (WDS) and GoFAIR.
As a driving force within the Open Science movement, Klaus Tochtermann initiated the Leibniz Research Alliance Open Science in 2012, and in 2014 the international Open Science Conference which has since been held annually.
Klaus Tochtermann says: “I am happy that I can now help to shape developments for cross-disciplinary research data management in the coming years at the heart of Europe. Most important to me is to show how national research data infrasturctures such as the NFDI can interact with the EOSC.”
